Sea Level Rise Symposium

Councilwoman Barbara Henley has been very interested and involved in learning more about recurrent flooding and sea level rise.  Due to her interest in this matter, she organized the Albemarle Symposium, which was held in April.  As a follow up to that meeting, the City is going to have a series of follow-up presentations.  The first will occur on Wednesday, July 25 from 6-8 PM at the Advanced Technology Center on the TCC Campus, 2nd floor Theater.   The speakers will be:

  • William Sammler, Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, who will talk about weather patterns and the impacts of hurricanes and flooding on the Southern Watershed
  • Kurt McCoy, Hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey who will discuss data gathering techniques the City is using around the city related to tides, precipitation, groundwater and stormwater
